This course delves into the necessity and urgency of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) in mitigating the impacts of climate change on global agriculture systems. It covers the principles and components of CSA, national and global policies promoting its adoption, and innovative practices designed for adaptation and mitigation of climate change in agriculture. Through this course, learners will explore techniques and strategies to help transform agriculture into a climate resilient, environmentally friendly, productive and profitable sector.
Course objectives
To provide an understanding of the principles and components of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) and its role in addressing the effects of climate change.
To clearly explain innovative, evidence-based techniques and technologies that enhance climate resilience in crop and livestock production.
To clearly explain national and global policies that support the adoption of CSA and sustainable farming practices.
To detail the importance of CSA practices in building resilient agricultural systems and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Upon successful completion of the course, learners will be able to;
Identify key agricultural practices that contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Critically assess the effectiveness of CSA practices in both adaptation and mitigation efforts in agriculture.
Identify gaps in current adaptation and mitigation strategies within agricultural systems, particularly in African contexts for improvements.
Apply and adopt CSA practices for a resilient agriculture system and food security.
